BLAGOVESHCHENSK - Federal Space Agency Head Vladimir Popovkin has visited the unfinished Vostochny Space Center in the Amur region, the regional government reported on Wednesday.

“I am pleased with the speed of construction works. The construction
has begun, and this is the most important. The works will reach their
climax at the end of next year and if we do not lose the tempo we will
launch the first spacecraft in 2015,” he said.

Popovkin inspected the laying of the launch ground’s foundation.

Vostochny is being built 24/7 by 2,500 workers, a third of them
residents of the Amur region, the report said. More than 600 machines
are being used. About 20 billion rubles will be spent in 2012 and
another 10 billion rubles in 2013.
