Moscow - South Stream B.V., the Netherlands-based design company for the construction of the offshore section of the South Stream gas pipeline, asked the Dutch authorities for permission to purchase services and equipment for the project after the European Union imposed sanctions against Russia.

The request was submitted in September, but so far there have not been any signs as to when such permission might be granted or whether it will be granted, an updated memorandum for the Eurobond program of Russian gas giant Gazprom states.

South Stream was forced to ask for permission by the EU regulation No. 833 of July 31, 2014, which prohibits supplying Russia with dual purpose products and technologies that could be used for military purposes, technologies that can be used in the oil industry for deepwater, shale oil and Arctic oil projects; as well as long-term financing for a number of Russian banks.
