You're reading: Settlement of protracted conflicts is priority of OSCE Lithuanian chair

Lithuania will try to make progress in the settlement of protracted conflicts as the chair of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2011, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said at a plenary meeting of the OSCE Astana summit on Thursday.

She thinks the OSCE can assist in the settlement of conflicts in Moldova, Georgia and Nagorno-Karabakh.

The complex history of certain countries shows that they are sometimes unable to handle domestic problems, she said.

Thus, the OSCE can be an intermediary. In her words, Lithuania as the OSCE chair will try to establish a special relationship with these countries and listen to all of the parties involved in the conflict to make progress.
