Moscow - Ankara is set to significantly increase the procurement of Russian gas, Turkish Ambassador in Moscow Umit Yardim said.

“We have an intention to increase gas supply from Russia,” he said in an interview with Interfax.

“Hopefully, a decision will be made when a delegation led by the energy minister arrives,” the senior diplomat said.

As reported earlier, Turkey ranks second in Europe after Germany by the consumption of Russian gas.

Turkey plans to develop cooperation with Russia in other spheres as well, Yardim continued.

“Closer cooperation with Russia is planned in the field of construction and, definitely, new platforms and space for bolstering cooperation will appear alongside integration between the countries,” he said.
