TASHKENT - A 528-squre meter painting by an Uzbek artist, Lekim Ibragimov, titled "One thousand angels and one painting," has been nominated for entry in the Guinness World Records, the Uzbekistan Arts Academy told Interfax.

The painting consists of 1,000 separate finished paintings each
depicting an angel. But all of them form one single 528-square meter
painting based on oriental fairy tales.

The project by the Uzbek artist is unique and record-breaking by a
whole host of indicators, starting from the very idea to its
implementation, according to the Guinness World Records committee. This
is exactly why the application for entering this large painting in this
Guinness book has been accepted for consideration. The application has
been filed in the Art Section as “the largest painting consisting of
1,000 parts.”

Among the record identifying indicators of the project is a
metamorphosis used in modern fine arts for the first time, when a
thousand independent paintings are combined into a complete picture. The
painting, which is eight meters high and 66 meters long, consists of
1,000 separate canvases. Each canvas depicting an angel is a painting in
its own right.

Ibragimov first had the idea of creating a painting based on the
legendary oriental fairy tales, “One Thousand and One Nights,” in 2000.
It took him ten years to form the concept of the project which he
started implementing in 2010 and has only now completed.

The art project by the Uzbek artist is due to be displayed at cultural centers across the world.
