You're reading: Vienna to host next round of Transnistria settlement talks

The next round of the 5+2 negotiations aimed at finding a solution to the Moldovan-Transnistrian conflict will be held in Vienna on July 16-17.

The talks will involve Transnistria and Moldova as the disputing parties in the conflict, Russia, Ukraine and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) as the mediators, and the European Union and the United States as observers.

During the Vienna session, Tiraspol plans to again address the problems relating to the freedom of movement and joint environmental protection measures, the Transnistrian Foreign Ministry reported.

In Vienna, the Transnistrian delegation will raise the issue of dredging and riverbed clean-up efforts on the Dniester River, the removal of a dangerous cable railway linking Ribnita in Transnistria and Rezina in Moldova, as well as problems faced by Transnistrian businesses.

Great attention will be paid to Chisinau’s plans to adopt new migration regulations, which may impose administrative sanctions on Transnistrian residents who do not have Moldovan citizenship.

After the talks are completed on July 17, a press briefing will take place involving the Moldovan and Transnistrian head negotiators, Nina Stanski and Yevgeny Karpov, as well as the OSCE envoy, Andriy Deschytsia.
