You're reading: Government sends Hr 9 million for interest on loans to build sports arenas in 2013

The Ukrainian government has redistributed the volume of state budget funds and amended the list of sports facilities to be constructed, reconstructed and overhauled, as well as organizational measures for 2013, as part of preparations for and conduct of the final tournament of the EuroBasket 2015 European Basketball Championship.

Respective Cabinet of Ministers resolution No. 763-r of Oct. 2 has been posted on the Web site of the Ukrainian government.

According to the document, the total amount of funds for EuroBasket 2015 facilities this year remained unchanged and will be Hr 200 million.

However, funding for the designing and reconstruction of the Meteor sports palace in Dnipropetrovsk was reduced to Hr 46.4 million from Hr 72.4 million, whereas funding for the designing and overhaul of the second stage of the Sports Palace in Kyiv was cut to Hr 44 million from Hr 70 million.

In addition, the government included in the list of facilities to be funded from the state budget the partial refunding of interest rates on loans raised for the construction of multi-functional sports facilities ahead of EuroBasket 2015, envisaging UAH 8.83 million for this purpose this year.

According to the document, funding from the state budget for the design and construction of training centers was increased from Hr 16.9 million to Hr 69.9 million.

Thus, funding for preparatory work on the construction of training centers in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk region in 2013 remained unchanged, at Hr 0.5 million and Hr 14.4 million respectively, whereas that in Donetsk, Odesa, Lviv and Kharkiv regions was increased to Hr 13.5 million from Hr 500,000.

In addition, funding from the state budget for preparatory work on the designing and construction of training facilities for Ukraine’s national basketball team in 2013 was reduced from Hr 40.7 million to UAH 31.87 million.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers issued resolution No. 161-r of March 11, 2013 approving the list of work on the construction, reconstruction and overhaul of sports facilities and organizational measures for 2013 worth a total of Hr 200 million as part of preparations for holding the final tournament of the EuroBasket 2015 European Basketball Championship in Ukraine.

As reported, on Dec. 18, 2011 Ukraine received the right to host the European Basketball Championship in 2015. Ukraine proposed hosting the championship in its largest cities, including Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Lviv, Kharkiv and Ivano-Frankivsk.
