The main utility department of Kyiv has summed up the results of the group stage of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship in the Kyiv fan area.

According to the Ukraine 2012 information center, 1.25 million fans visited the fan zone in Khreschatyk Street over 12 days.

They drank some 200,000 liters, or three tanks, of beer, ate 8 kilometers of sausages, 18,000 portions, or 1 tonne, of ice cream, and 60,000, or 6,900 tonnes, of hot dogs, which is equal to an average weight of an elephant.

The fans also snapped up souvenirs from the counters.

In addition, the capital’s utility services removed 263 tonnes, or 16.5 trucks, of garbage over the 12 days.

“These were mainly plastic bottles, cups, and metal beer cans. We press it and transport out of the area,” the head of the utility department, Dmytro Novytsky, said.

Cleaners say that they found many football fan accessories in the garbage – wigs, scarves, and caps.
