A Ukrainian fan who was in Kyiv's fan zone during the Ukraine-England match threw a smoke bomb in the final minutes of the game, the city's main police department has told Interfax-Ukraine.

It said that the fan was arrested and nobody was injured in the incident.

The 19-year-old resident of Kyiv came to the fan zone with his friends to support Ukraine’s national football team.

“In the final minutes of the match, apparently due to an excess of emotion, he threw a smoke bomb,” the police said.

About 50,000 fans visited the fan zone during the match.

The Ukraine-England match was also watched by 45,000 fans in Donetsk and 30,000 in Lviv.
