You're reading: Ukraine draws defending world and European champion Spain in Euro 2016 qualifying group

Ukraine on Feb. 23 drew reigning European champion and first ranked Spain, and will also contend with Slovakia, Belarus, Macedonia and Luxembourg to qualify for the 2016 European soccer championship. 

Starting on Sept. 8, Ukraine will play two-legged matches with
each team in Group C, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the
24-team final taking place in France.

Ukraine is the second-ranked team in the group at 18th
worldwide, according to a monthly rating by FIFA, the world soccer governing
body.
