You're reading: Ukrainian sabre fencers defeat Russians in World Cup 2013

The Ukrainian women's saber fencing team has won the World Fencing Championship 2013 in Budapest, Hungary. 

In the final on Monday, the Ukrainian quartet made of Olha Kharlan, Halyna Pundyk, Olena Voronina, and Alina Komaschuk beat Russian opponents in a tense struggle 45-44.

This was the fourth medal for Ukraine at this years’ world cup.

Earlier, Kharlan won the women’s individual sabre competition.

The Ukrainian female fencers won silver in the team competition on August 12 losing to Hungary. Also, Ukraine’s foil fencer Rostyslav Hertsyk won a bronze medal.
