You're reading: United Basketball Investments to build Lviv arena for EuroBasket 2015

United Basketball Investments Ltd. (UBI, Kyiv) has selected a land plot for the construction of a multipurpose sports arena for the EuroBasket 2015 European Basketball Championship on Riashevska Street in the Zaliznychny district of Lviv, the press service of Lviv City Council reported on Tuesday.

“A respective draft decision on the allocation of a land plot will be prepared for consideration by the session,” reads the statement.

According to UBI experts, the land plot proposed by Lviv City Council is most suitable for the construction of the arena for EuroBasket 2015 in terms of size and accessibility.

The details on the area of the land plot have not been specified.

As reported, with reference to the Basketball Federation of Ukraine (BFU), in May 2012, the EuroBasket 2015 committee named the winners of the tender for the right to build basketball facilities in cities that can host the European basketball championship in Ukraine, among them Donbass Hockey Club Ltd, Donetsk-Basket Ltd. (both based in Donetsk) and UBI.

UBI got the right to build multipurpose sports arenas in Kyiv for at least 15,000 spectators, in Odesa for at least 10,000 spectators, in Dnipropetrovsk for at least 10,000 spectators, in Lviv for at least 10,000 spectators and in Ivano-Frankivsk for at least 6,000 spectators. BFU President Oleksandr Volkov said that UBI owners are companies controlled by entrepreneurs Ihor Kolomoisky and Dmytro Buriak.

On Dec. 18, 2011 Ukraine received the right to host the European Basketball Championship in 2015. Ukraine proposed hosting the championship in its largest cities, including Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Lviv, Kharkiv and Ivano-Frankivsk.

United Basketball Investments Ltd. was set up in April 2012.

The company’s owners as of April 2012 were Division Entertainment Ltd. and BSC Budivelnyk Ltd. (both based in Kyiv), as well as Basketball Club Hoverla Ltd. (Ivano-Frankivsk), Basketball Club Odesa Ltd. (Odesa), Basketball Club Dnipro Ltd. (Dnipropetrovsk) and Basketball Club Politekhnika-Halychyna Ltd. (Lviv).

UBI’s authorized capital as of April 2012 was Hr 2.4 million.
