Ukraine expects the arrival of more than one million fans during the final tournament of the European Basketball Championship in 2015, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul has said.

“Over one million fans from other countries are expected to visit the host cities [in Ukraine] during EuroBasket 2015,” Vilkul said in Kyiv on Friday at a meeting of the coordinating committee on preparations for EuroBasket 2015, which was attended by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

During this event, Vilkul also presented a strategy for the development of the national sports infrastructure for this tournament.

He said that the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) had demanded that there be seven modern arenas for EuroBasket 2015. The implementation of the strategy envisages the construction of six modern multipurpose arenas in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Odesa, Kharkiv and Lviv, as well as the reconstruction of the Sports Palaces in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk.

Vilkul said that at least 100,000 people would be engaged in the construction of infrastructure facilities for this championship and that at least 10,000 would be involved in the operation and maintenance of these facilities.

Ukraine also intends to create a comfortable environment for the fans who are planning to attend EuroBasket 2015.
