"We talked a lot about how well the European championship went, what resonance occured in Europe and in the world because of its holding in Ukraine and Poland. Everybody was satisfied. The president thanked [Shevchenko] for the excellent performance of the Ukrainian team," the president's press service quoted Shevchenko as saying after the meeting.
Yanukovych and Shevchenko discussed the development of football in Ukraine. In particular, the famous football player stressed the importance of holding football lessons at schools.
"This is very important, because there is great interest in football after the European championship. I think that football is the number one sport in Ukraine, and we should develop it," the sportsman said.
