You're reading: Active hostilities continue in northern part of Donetsk

Active hostilities have been taking place in northern Donetsk (near the airport) as of 6.30 on Sept. 30, the city council said.

At 3.30 p.m. a direct hit damaged the Smolianka-Mahystralna high-voltage power line. As a result, six substations – Mayak, Zasiadko, Mahystralna, Scherbakovska, Vitka and Butovka – which service all power-supply firms have lost power. About 400 transformer substations in the Kyivsky, Voroshilovskyi and (partly) Kuibyshevskyi districts have remained without power supplies.

This led to a halt of the Northern and Central water-supply systems of DonetskCityWaterCanal. There is no water supply in the Kyivsky district until power supplies resume. All electric public transport services in the city have stopped running.

As of 6 p.m, repairing the high-voltage power line does not appear possible due to the ongoing shelling. Power-supply firms are reconnecting substations. About 200 transformer substations are without electricity. The central clinic city hospital number one (the Vyshnevsky hospital), a blood transfusion center and the Donetsk regional clinic trauma hospital are running backup power systems.

The emergency service of DonetskCityGas has reported new addresses where gas pipelines were damaged between midday and 4 p.m. on Sept. 30.

Efforts are underway to establish the scale of damage caused to residential buildings. Local emergency teams and paramedics are working at the scenes.
