Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei has expressed concern over the disappearance of weapons from the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's and Armed Forces' arsenals.

He made this statement during his visit to Riga where he held talks with Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics, and the two discussed, in particular, the situation in Ukraine, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesperson told Interfax.

“We are really concerned by the situation on the southern borders because a large amount of weapons, including from the arsenals of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry and Armed Forces, got into the hands of a number of individuals, and it is unclear where these weapons might turn up,” Makei said.

“Ukraine is not Syria, not Lebanon, which are far from Europe. Ukraine is situated on the border with the European Union,” he said.

“I think, our common goal is to make sure this internal Ukrainian conflict ends as quickly as possible and for quiet, normal life to set in there,” the Belarusian minister added.
