Yup, the gas princess Tymoshenko abuse of office screwed Ukraine BIG TIME.

Ukraine should get paid a percentage of the volume it transports according to the current gas price.

And Ukraine should do it while Ukraine can, because Russia recently took over the Belarus GTS and is going to modernize it, and the Nord Stream is coming into exploitation soon. This will reduce the volume of gas via the Ukraine GTS to REAL Europe by some 30%.

The South Stream finally will knock down the Ukraine role into the Russia gas delivery to the EU.

So yes Ukraine should extort gas transport fees while Ukraine can before the Ukraine GTS becomes obsolete in 2015.
