Ukraine's State Border Service reports that a charter plane with Viktor Yanukovych on board was not let out from Donetsk on Saturday.
“A charter plane without documents required for crossing the border was trying to take off from the airport of Donetsk today,” State Border Service spokesman Serhiy Astakhov told Interfax-Ukraine on Saturday evening.
The border service claims Viktor Yanukovych was on board the plane.
When inspectors arrived to check flight documentation, they were faced with a group of armed men who offered money for letting the plane take off without the needed documents.
When the inspectors refused, two armored cars drove close to the plane, from which Yanukovych descended, got into one of the two cars and left the airport.
The border service had no information about Yanukovych’s destination, as the flight did not undergo the registration procedure.
Yanukovych did not appear at other checkpoints of Ukraine’s border, the agency said.
Ukraine’s parliament on Saturday decided to remove the then Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych from office and scheduled early presidential elections for May 25, 2014. The decisions were supported by 328 MPs.
Meanwhile, speaking in an interview with UBR TV Channel on the same day, Yanukovych said he was not going to resign and leave Ukraine. He also said that the recent decisions taken by lawmakers on Saturday were unlawful and he was not going to sign them.
