Easter is approaching for churches following the Julian Calendar, and for Ukrainians that has traditionally meant everything from buying new clothes to whitewashing the house.
But among the many traditions of Ukrainians during the six-week Lent period, which ends for them this weekend, creating pysanky – intricately decorated raw eggs – is the most striking.
