In November, Ukraine is poised to sign historic association and free trade agreements with the EU, in a move that could mean much more for the country than just a shift away from Moscow’s grip.

In
setting a course for convergence with the 28-nation bloc, Ukraine could become
much more attractive for foreign direct investment, following in the footsteps
of Poland, which saw reforms swiftly accompanied by economic success.

Jorge
Zukoski, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, says: “If
the agreements are properly implemented, the required reforms are undertaken
and the new legislative framework is properly enforced, the amount of
investment by both domestic and international companies will be staggering.”
