Roman Olearchyk writes: “Kyiv is in an extra cheery mood this weekend, expecting a record inflow of fans for the Spain vs Italy Euro 2012 European football championship final hosted in the Ukrainian capital on Sunday.”

According to the report, local “authorities hope that the final will cap what’s been a successful tournament for Ukraine.”


“Even though the national team was knocked out early in the competition,” …. Euro 2012 seems to have lured in precious tourist dollars attracting “about 1 million fans to Ukraine, twice as much as pessimists predicted and roughly in line with (optimistic) official predictions,” the report concludes.
