You're reading: Georgia imposed sanctions on Russia when it severed diplomatic ties with it

Tbilisi - It is wrong to raise the issue of Georgia's joining the international sanctions against Russia, as the two countries do not have diplomatic relations, says Georgian prime ministerial representative for relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze.

“We severed diplomatic relations with Russia some time ago. There doesn’t exist a tougher form of sanctions in relations between states, and so in this respect Georgia fully meets the standards that the international community has set for Russia,” Abashidze told journalist on Jan. 28.

Georgia is maintaining trade and economic relations with Russia, but they are so insignificant that talking about them is irrelevant, he said.
