You're reading: Linkevicius sees Russia’s humanitarian aid delivery as provocation

Foreign Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevicius has said that the situation developing around Russia's humanitarian convoy could cause the escalation of the situation in the eastern regions of Ukraine.

“First of all, you should calmly estimate the situation,” he Linkevicius.

“Certainly, this is an escalation, this is a provocation and all this is Russia’s responsibility, since it is Russia that violated the rules,” the minister said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine on the results of his visit to Kyiv on Aug. 22.

According to the minister, this situation is an evidence of “a blatant violation of the international law” and it should be a subject of attention of the international organizations, in particular the European Union and UN Security Council.

He predicted that this issue would be covered during the meetings in Minsk on Aug. 26, 2014.

We hope that this meeting will be held and hope there would be a frank conversation over this issue, which will build up definite arguments, the minister stressed.

Linkevicius also said that despite the tension, it is necessary to take every opportunity to de-escalate the situation in the country.
