KIEV, Ukraine — Antigovernment protesters here in the capital, who have become angrier and rougher in recent weeks, captured and beat a plainclothes police officer in the part of the city controlled by demonstrators, the authorities said Saturday.

Ukrainian opposition leader Arseniy Yatsenyuk has warned European officials that the army could be used to crush protests against the country's president, his party said on Saturday. The opposition has refused to end street protests despite the passing of the amnesty for protesters arrested in the two-month crisis.
