Looks like the amazons from FEMEN shot themselves in the foot.
Actually no, they didn't.
Ukraine has the unenviable reputation of being the number 1 country in Europe for human trafficking i.e. young girls who end up as slaves in countries such as Israel servicing the growing sex industry there,
Prevention I guess is better than cure and FEMEN maintain their abhorrance to the unscrupulous people who run the Ukrainian sex industry.
Furthermore, Ukraine has the highest rates of HIV/AIDS in Europe which is inextricably linked to the sex industry.
And finally, several regional economies are kept afloat by the sex tourism industry particularly in cities in the lower economic brackets such as Mykolaev and Kherson. I could go and say that women are usually recruited in the street in the south to routinely prostitute themselves as potential "mates" on dating and marriage sites like the well known one you see advertised here in the pages of Kiev Post. They're paid to lie and cheat.
And didn't Ukraine drop its visa requirements for the arse end of Europe, Turkey, so its filthy men could practice whoredom on an even grander scale. .
Our women deserve protection.
Way to go Sasha Shevchenko! .
Have you, actually, read the article? What you say may or may not be entirely true, but that doesn't justify their attack on Euro 2012 and the fans as perpetraitors of all the nasty things you so passionately describe in your comment. The article says that all evidence shows the contrary. Please read articles before you make comments.
As I recall it was an "article" from a newspaper, written by a journalist. FEMEN are protagonists who's aim is to shed light on the very facts I was referring to. As for my "passionate" comments they're all based on factual evidence. The WHO website or UNESCO would certainly help clarrify things for you, and a trip down south may even enlighten you a little further as to why FEMEN do what they do.
You have missed the point once again, which is that FEMEN's lashing-out at the EURO 2012 fans was inappropriate, counterproductive, out of place and doesn't serve the pursuit of their cause.
The Daily Mail increased its sales with the story about Ukrainian racists with the BBC asked to repeat its program on the same subject but did it damage their respective reputations? No I think not.
FEMEN scored front page news wordwide in their approach to EURO 2012 and despite your opinion or the world's for that matter, "the amazons" wont have egg on their faces.
BTW A feminist movement usually go hard in their approach to men (no pun intended) and FEMENS point, rightly or wrongly, brought the world's attention (and yours it seems) to the unfortunate bordello elements that are the face of modern Ukraine.
That WAS the point and here endeth the lesson.
Clearly, the claims in both cases (BBC and FEMEN) proved to be unfounded. Let me spell it out for you - the expected racist attacks against footie fans in the Ukraine and rise in prostitution during Euro 2012 - prooved to be false claims. That is a fact.
They are right to oppose exploitation of women but their method is counterproductive.
