Australia has taken a hard line with Ukraine in the first round of the European country's assault on Australia's plain cigarette packaging rules at the World Trade Organisation in Geneva.

On Saturday,Sept. 1, Ukraine asked the WTO set up a panel to hear a dispute on "measures concerning trademarks and other plain packaging requirements applicable to the tobacco products".

in 2010 Viktor Yushchenko opposed raising tarrifs on tobacco oing so far to protect Tobacco Interest to en extent of vetoing legislation aimed at restricting Tobacco smuggling. The Tabbco companies help fund Yushchenko's fail bid for re-election.
