You're reading: Wall Street Journal: Tens of thousands of Ukrainians rally in Kyiv

  Tens of thousands of Ukrainians marched through Kiev on Sunday, calling for the ouster of President Viktor Yanukovych after the violent dispersal of a protest over his failure to sign a far-reaching accord with the European Union.

The rally was the largest yet in a week of protests at Mr. Yanukovych’s decision to suspend signing a proposed free-trade deal with the EU and instead seek improved ties with Russia.

Protests had appeared set to peter out, but crowds Sunday were fueled by anger at widely broadcast scenes of police violently breaking up a crowd of a few hundred people, mostly students, camped on Independence Square early Saturday morning.
