You're reading: Washington says Ukrainian security forces’ operations are ‘moderate and measured’

Washington believes that the actions of the Ukrainian military in the eastern part of Ukraine are measured, U.S. Department of State Spokesperson Jen Psaki has said.

“In terms of what’s happening on the ground, our view is that the Ukrainian security forces’ operations have been moderate and measured,” she said at a daily briefing in Washington on July 2.

She said that Ukrainian soldiers “have been taking steps to maintain order within their own country.”

“Our belief is that while President Poroshenko said he’s ready to implement a bilateral ceasefire, any ceasefire must be mutual, and there are steps that the Russians have not taken that they need to continue to take,” she said.
