Eleven civilians have been killed and another eight have been injured in Donetsk as a result of strikes over the past 24 hours, the city administration said on its Web site on Friday, Aug. 15.

“In the past 24 hours, eight civilians have sustained injuries and 11 civilians have died in Donetsk,” it said.

The situation was tense in Donetsk last night, with overnight fighting reported mainly in the city’s Petrovsky and Leninsky districts, the city administration said.

People in the Shiroky neighborhood have said last night they saw flashes presumably left by bombs in the sky. Residents of the village of the Trudivska mine have reported that several houses were destroyed in the village as a result of strikes from heavy weapons. More than 90 artillery projectiles were fired against the town of Mospyne from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Aug. 14, damaging 40 percent of local buildings and fully or partially destroying 20 privately owned houses. The operations of the Mospynska mine were suspended.

As many as 267 electrical substations, which supply power to the Petrovsky, Kirovsky and Leninsky districts of Donetsk, went out of service as a result of fighting on Aug. 14. In the evening, specialists managed to restore the operations of 25 substations in Petrovsky district and another 25 substations that supply power to the village near the Abakumov mine.

The Southern water service, as well as a bread-baking plant and a dairy plant in the city’s Kirovsky district remain without access to power.

The building of the Donetsk Regional Museum of Natural History, located in the city center, was damaged as a result of artillery strikes on August 14. Its exhibits were not damaged. The situation remains tense in Donetsk on Friday morning, Aug. 15, the city authorities said.

Municipal services are working to restore power and water supplies to different parts of the city.

Public transport is operating in Donetsk. Dispatch offices and the Pivdenny bus terminal are functioning as well.
