You're reading: 17,000 internally displaced persons from east return home

As of Aug. 26, a total of 132, 593 people had left the flash points in country's east and Crimea and are temporarily accommodated in other regions of Ukraine, the government's Web site has reported.

Ukrainian Social Policy Minister Liudmyla Denysova said that there are 44,000 children among the total number of displaced.

The biggest numbers of refugees were hosted by Dnipropetrovsk region (16,000), Kharkiv region (14,000) and Odesa Oblast (8,000). There is the possibility to accommodate over 25,000 people from all over Ukraine.

However, over 17,000 citizens have already returned to their places of permanent residence, of whom 14,480 returned to Donetsk Oblast, and 2,043 to Luhansk Oblast, Denysova said during a press briefing.

Almost 107,447 temporarily asylum-seekers have contacted the social protection services (63,106 – from Donetsk Oblast, 31,263 – from Luhansk Oblast, and 13,078 – from Crimea and Sevastopol).

A total of 1,185 people out of 7,635 seeking a job received one, and 4,361 obtained the status of being unemployed, and are receiving the corresponding welfare payments.
