40 percent of Ukrainians stand for negotiations with the separatist protesters and 35 percent support the military crackdown, according to a poll conducted by the Rating sociological group and presented at a Wednesday press conference at Interfax-Ukraine.

Pro-talks respondents propose partial satisfaction of the protesters’ demands but say the region must remain a part of Ukraine.

Fifteen percent think the local population should be allowed to decide on the region’s future, 8 percent are hesitant and 2 percent made other suggestions.

Some 2,000 respondents were polled on April 25-30, the error keeps within 2.2 percent.
