You're reading: 70.3 percent of Ukrainians say Russia in state of war with Ukraine – poll

Over seventy percent of Ukrainians said that there is a war between Russia and Ukraine, according to a poll conducted by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) in cooperation with Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation.

The rest of the respondents (19.3 percent) when asked if they agree that there is a war between Russia and Ukraine, said they don’t back up this statement, meanwhile 10.4 percent of the respondents found it difficult to answer.

In the course of the survey, being asked whether Ukraine compatriots consider that Russia is in charge of bloodshed and people fatalities on the east of Ukraine, 43.7 percent of the respondents said affirmative yes; 18.9 percent said they likely to agree with this; 10.2 percent – likely to disagree; 16.9 percent of those polled said definite no, and 10.3 percent found it difficult to answer.

A number of 49.3 percent of Ukrainians when asked whether they agree that Russia actively supports pro-Russian forces on the east of Ukraine, said certain yes; 25.1 percent said that likely to think so; 8.1 percent – likely to disagree with that; 6.8 percent of polled said definite no, and 10.6 percent found it difficult to answer.

When asked: “Do you agree that Russia fairly defends interests of Russian-speaking citizens of the east of Ukraine?”, 65.7 percent of the respondents said “no”; 19.5 percent – said “yes” and 14.8 percent found it difficult to answer.

The poll was conducted by Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) from Sept. 12 to Sept. 21, 2014. A total of 2,035 respondents were polled. A poll’s margin of error doesn’t exceed 2.2 percent. The poll was conducted in 110 population areas in all the Ukraine’s regions, except for Crimea and Luhansk region.
