You're reading: Admiral Komoyedov says Crimea troops should be run by unified command

Krasnoarmeisk (Moscow region), Sept 19 - All arms and branches of troops stationed in Crimea should be under one command and special attention should be given to the air defense of the peninsula, Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov, chairman of the State Duma committee on defense, told reporters.

“My personal opinion is that we need to do what was done in the Kaliningrad special defense district, which has one head and everyone reports to him.” Komoyedov said, commenting on the decision made by the Defense Ministry collegian to deploy a full-fledged group of troops in Crimea.

“Of course, the most at risk track is air, and air defense should be the strongest,” he said. At the same time, he said reinforcement should not be divided between the sea, air and ground tracks.

“There is a need for an optimal approach, so that everything is balanced,” Komoyedov said.
