An agreement on cooperation between the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Tatarstan was signed in Simferopol on Wednesday, an Interfax correspondent has reported.

The agreement was signed by Crimean Prime Minister Sergei Aksionov and Rustam Minnikhanov, the head of Tatarstan.

After the document was signed in the Crimean Council of Ministers, Aksionov thanked members of Tatarstan’s delegation for taking the time to come to Crimea “at this difficult time and plan steps for further cooperation.”

Minnikhanov told reporters that more specific areas of cooperation will be determined within the next month by experts from the two governments.

At the same time, Minnikhanov reiterated that “not everything should be measured with money.” He said Crimea is very attractive to Tatarstan in terms of investment cooperation, specifically in the sphere of agriculture, tourism, sports, and student exchange.

Minnikhanov said he will have “many meetings” in Crimea. In particular, he said he intends to meet with Crimean legislators and representatives of Crimean Tatars on Wednesday.

Minnikhanov said Tatarstan gives a lot of attention to the development of relations and cooperation with Crimean Tatars. “We have a lot in common in our religion, language, and culture,” he said.

Minnikhanov also said Tatarstan is ready to accept students from Crimea and develop other types of cultural cooperation with Crimean Tatars.
