The Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine would not restrict buckwheat exports from Ukraine in the 2015/16 agricultural year (July 2015-June 2016).

There will be no ban. We live in the country with the market economy and any bans, especially to export, are unacceptable for us. Buckwheat is not really export-oriented product. Here everything depends on market mechanisms. If it is beneficial for producers, they would export,” Minister Oleksiy Pavlenko said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

He added that as of Oct. 5, 2015, buckwheat was harvested on 113,000 hectares (121,000 ha year-over-year) and 132,000 tonnes was threshed (169,000 tonnes). The yield is 11.7 centners per ha (14 centners per ha).

As reported, the UkrAgroConsult agency has forecast that the buckwheat yield in Ukraine will reach no more than 150,000 tonnes this year, while domestic consumption is estimated at about 160,000 tonnes.
