You're reading: Almost 1,500 people go missing in Donbas since April – Ukraine police

 As many as 1,026 reports of abductions have been registered in Donetsk and Luhansk regions since April 1, and the whereabouts of 558 people have been tracked down, while 468 remain unaccounted for, an adviser to the Ukrainian interior minister, Zorian Shkiriak, has said.

 “A study of online reports suggests that 1,026 people were abducted or taken hostage between April 1 and Aug. 18,” he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

He also said that on the lists of abducted persons are 53 journalists, 147 Interior Ministry officers, 115 servicemen and border guards, 40 local legislature deputies, members of political parties, district and rural officials, 26 OSCE representatives, six prosecutors, and five security service officers, and 602 persons belonging to different categories.

Shkiriak said that 468 people, among them four journalists, 12 police officers, 65 servicemen and border guards, 13 local legislature deputies, members of political parties and rural and municipal officials remained unaccounted for as of August 18.

Since April 1 this year 1,460 letters and reports about missing people have been registered in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. As of August 18, a total of 649 persons are reported missing.
