You're reading: Ambassador Zurabov: Important decisions in Russian-Ukrainian cooperation should be made in first half of 2013

Russia hopes to find compromise solutions with Ukraine among other things thanks to the work of the new Rada, Russian ambassador to Kyiv Mikhail Zurabov has said.

At a conference “Election results in Ukraine and the prospects for
Russian-Ukrainian cooperation” held in Kyiv on Friday, the ambassador
quoted President Vladimir Putin as speaking of close partnership and a
friendly atmosphere in the cooperation between Ukraine and Russia that
help to resolve many problems.

“However, any compromise solutions that may be approved at the
political level by the executive branch of government later require
relevant ratification in the parliaments of our two countries,” Zurabov
said.

He said that the prospects for cooperation will soon become clear
depending on how the parliaments of the two countries will be able to
calmly, reasonably and thoroughly work with minimal politicking.

“And the present-day situation and the situation of next year, if it
is looked from the viewpoint of the economy, contains a sufficiently
high number of threats and challenges. We don’t have such a safety
factor today that would permit us to analyze the current agenda
endlessly and find decisions. Therefore, according to my estimate, if
any decisions are destined to take place, they should occur in the first
half of next year,” the ambassador summed up.
