You're reading: American doctor missing

Day three for the search of a 77-year-old retired American physician in Kyiv ended unsuccessfully in a wooded park called Zamkova Hora in the Podil district, according to a blog posted by his son.

The search, according to the blog, was conducted by local police in tandem with volunteers.

Dr. Jay Sloop of Yakima, Wash. went missing on May 14. Greg Sloop’s blog said the former obstetrician went for a morning walk in the park at 7 a.m., but never returned to eat breakfast with friends. Greg Sloop wrote that “multiple security cameras showed Jay walking toward this park, and going in, and not coming back out past the cameras.” The doctor’s grandson, Jeff Sloop, is currently in Kyiv leading the volunteer search. Jay Sloop was on a medical mission for the Seventh-day Adventist Church, for whom he works as health care director at the church’s regional headquarters in Spokane.
