The Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment has decided to send a special group to monitor the detention of Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko, who is held in detention in Russia, leader of the Batkivschyna party Yulia Tymoshenko has said.

“We have asked and they have already decided to delegate a special group… and on behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to take control of everything that is happening with Nadia [Savchenko] in prisons and mental hospitals,” she said on the air of Shuster Live on Channel 24 on Oct. 23 night.

Tymoshenko said that it was her party that requested the committee to monitor Savchenko’s detention conditions.

“We are expecting the arrival of the group any day now,” she added.
