YEREVAN - The resolution of the Ukraine crisis can help alleviate international tensions, Armenian President Serzh Sargsian has said.

“The complete settlement of this situation bears key significance for the future of the country and for the alleviation of ongoing international tensions,” Sargsian said at a meeting between the chiefs of Eastern Partnership member countries and members of the European People’s Party.

The Armenian president said he was hopeful that “farsighted tactics and correct opinions would triumph” on the way towards the resolution of the crisis, the presidential press service has reported.

“I hope that a solution will be found on the only correct and lasting path of respect for each other’s problems and mutual understanding,” Sargsian said.

He also hopes that “the joint work on the comprehensive settlement [of the Ukraine conflict] will prevail over unilateral accusations, which are a road to nowhere.”

“Unfortunately, I have seen signs of this attitude [unilateral accusations] even in today’s declaration of the European People’s Party. We have failed to reach a consensus on a number of provisions. To my mind, the main reason for this is that, for the first time ever, partners from the European People’s Party were not fully involved in the elaboration of the draft,” Sargsian said.
