Rostov-on-Don - There is no information how many shells have exploded near the Kuibyshevo checkpoint on the Russian-Ukrainian territory and whose territory has been hit, spokesman for the Rostov regional border department of the Federal Security Service Vasily Malayev told Interfax on Wednesday, July 23.

“It is still unclear whether Ukrainian shells have hit the Russian
territory and how many of them [have been fired]. Border department
specialists will check whether the infrastructure of populated
localities and the Kuibyshevo customs post has been damaged,” Malayev
said.

All is quiet on the border now, but three border checkpoints, Gukovo, Kuibyshevo and Novoshakhtinsk, remain closed, he said.

In turn, southern customs department spokesman Rayan Farukshin told
Interfax Kuibyshevo customs officers returned to their post after the
gunfire subsided on the Ukrainian territory on Tuesday evening.

Earlier reports said the customs post was evacuated at about 8:10
p.m. on Tuesday, July 22 due to the intensive firing on the adjacent territory.

Reportedly, three Ukrainian shells hit the Russian soil near the
Kuibyshevo customs post. They blasted on the outskirts of the Primiussky
farmstead.

Local residents told the customs officers the shells did not hurt civilians.
