You're reading: Astelit: Mobile operators to build network in Kyiv subway

Mobile communications operators have agreed on joint construction and possession of the GSM mobile communications network in Kyiv subway, CEO of Astelit (the life :) brand), Oleksandr Barinov, has said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

He said that at present, all operators face a problem of the impossibility to use mobile communications services by subscribers in subway, including sending and receiving of SMS messages and use mobile Internet.

“The operators sat down at the negotiating table and jointly developed technical requirements, conducted a tender and received support of city authorities. Now we’re approaching the finish, when we’ll not only jointly build the infrastructure, but jointly possess it,” he said.

He also confirmed that the owner of Ukrtelecom – ESU LLC – will be general contractor of the construction project.

Baranov expressed hope that the construction of the network in Kyiv subway will start this year.

As reported, Kyiv city administration on March 6, 2012 announced a tender to attract an investor to build mobile communications infrastructure in Kyiv subway.

Under the project it is planned to cover 44 subway stations. The approximate cost of the project totals UAH 70 million (value added tax not included).
