You're reading: Authorities: Donetsk quiet after nighttime and morning shelling

Fighting was raging in the vicinity of the airport of Donetsk from Friday night to Saturday morning, and artillery fire and explosions were heard throughout the city, but the situation was quiet by 0900 a.m., the Donetsk city council said.

“As a result of the hostilities, a gas pipeline on Nizhynska Street was damaged, leaving private houses on that street without gas,” the council said in a statement.

It said repair workers were currently unable to accessing the damaged part of the pipeline.

“Since it is quite a dangerous district, restoration work has not yet started on damaged parts of electricity supply networks either, and so there is still no electricity in some of the residential areas in Kuibyshivsky district,” the council said.

However, by 9 a.m. the situation was quiet, it said.

“The municipal services are in operation. Public transportation is running to weekend schedules,” the council said.
