The first stage of verifying Donetsk police's loyalty to the service and Ukraine ended on July 14, Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has said.

“A total of 585 certified policemen have been fired. Corresponding criminal cases will be opened against the majority of these policemen. Two hundred and forty-two more employees, who have been on a sick leave, will be additionally examined. Their absence and money savings will be profoundly assessed,” head of Interior Ministry wrote on his Facebook page on July 14 night.

Avakov also said that he would continue providing information on the lustration process in the Donetsk and Luhansk offices of the Interior Ministry.
