Acting Interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov has said that the key perpetrators of the activist Ihor Lutsenko's kidnapping and activist Yuriy Verbytsky's murder have been detained.

Avakov has emphasized that the main motive of the crime was intimidation.

“One of the most notorious crimes was kidnapping of Ihor Lutsenko’s and murder of Yuriy Verbytsky. Today I can say that the Main Investigative Department of the Interior Ministry has made the first arrest of key organizers and direct perpetrators of the crime. For legal reasons I can’t name them,” he said during the press conference on Wednesday.

Although, Avakov specified that the key perpetrator was a previously convicted person born in 1976.

“He didn’t do it alone. He’s connected to a number of structures, which are also connected to the political leadership and law enforcement leaders of the previous government,” he said.

When answering the question what was the motive for commitment of the crime, the minister said: “Intimidation was the key motive.”
