You're reading: Azarov slams opposition over regional languages bill

The Ukrainian opposition's vehement rejection of the draft law on regional languages, passed by parliament on Tuesday, means the opposition "denies the right of half the population of Ukraine to speak in its native language," Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said on Wednesday.

“The passage of the law on regional languages is an example that will
make the quality of our opposition obvious to you. It’s litmus paper
for our opposition: it denies the right of half the population of
Ukraine to speak in its native language,” the government press service
quoted Azarov as saying during a meeting in Kyiv with a delegation of
the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
