Ukraine is interested in settlement of the Transdniestrian issue, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said at a meeting with Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti, which took place in Kyiv on May 11.

A report about this meeting dubbed "Ukraine supports Moldova in Transdniestrian settlement was posted on the Web site of the Ukrainian premier on Sunday.

"Our countries do not need a conflict between their borders," Azarov said.

Timofti for his part noted that Russia’s military presence in the region obstructs the movement of Moldovan citizens from both banks of the Dniester, the premier’s press service said. "It is a destabilizing factor. The incident, which took place on January 1 2012, when a Russian serviceman deadly wounded Moldovan citizen Vadim Pisar on the bridge across the Dniester," the press service quoted the Moldovan president as saying.

Timofti thanked the Ukrainian premier for Kyiv’s support to Chisinau in the Transdniestrian settlement. Azarov, in turn, assured the Moldovan president that Ukraine was interested in the settlement of the Transdniestrian issue.
