BUDAPEST – Ukraine has started getting natural gas through Hungary, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

“I’m very pleased to inform you that today, and it is significant,
the first molecule of Hungarian gas has crossed the Ukrainian-Hungarian
border via a reverse system of gas shipments to our country,” Azarov
said at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday.

“This is a very big event. It really means a breakthrough in the energy independence of Ukraine,” the prime minister said.

In addition, Azarov said that he was discussing with Hungarian Prime
Minister Viktor Orban the possibility of increasing natural gas
shipments to Ukraine.

According to him, Orban instructed his government to look into this
issue. Azarov pledged to organize the relevant work in Ukraine.
