Ukrainians should decide on their future profession at school, and school administrations should help them do so, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

“Career guidance should be given at school and influence the choice by schoolchildren of their future profession,” he said at a meeting with the leaders of school administrations in Kyiv on Tuesday, June 4.

“How is the career guidance of our pupils formed in our schools? Who do you want to be? The way our country develops will depend on who you want to be. If all want to be managers, lawyers and economists – although these are very important jobs – then who will create the foundation of our prosperity, material production, and who will work in the field of IT technologies?” Azarov asked.

He also said that he would like school administrations to be involved in the projects of vocational guidance and the correct selection by young people of a successful career for themselves.
