European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has said that Brussels intends to unilaterally enact the provision of a free trade area with Ukraine in terms of imports of goods.

He said at a press conference after a European Commission meeting in
Brussels on Wednesday that the European Commission was ready to propose
that the EU Council and the European Parliament unilaterally apply ahead
of time the provision on imports of goods stipulated in the free trade
agreement, part of the Association Agreement, which the EU is ready to
sign with Ukraine.

Barroso said that this would mean millions in saved payments on import duties.
